Well, this week has been a roller-coaster one in my little world of love and weddings. I’ve been filmed for TV, pooped on by a bird and shortlisted for a wedding blog award. Two out of three is not bad, is it? We can’t have weeks where everything goes our way can we?
Blog love for me
I literally fell off my seat on Wednesday when I found out that the my blog, yes this blog, has been shortlisted from hundreds of entrants down to the last five of the Bloggers’ Lounge 2014 awards. The BL is a top blogging industry resource that knows everything and anything about blogging and if they say that they like your blog, then you are more than allowed to pat yourself on the back. What an amazing honour. I cannot stop pinching myself. I love my blog. I love writing my posts and I love sharing all my knowledge, stories and experiences with anyone who wants to listen and sometimes those who don’t! And these reasons will always be what drives me to keep my blog going and to keep sharing the love. That said, it is also really bloody lovely to get a bit of recognition from within the wedding industry and blog industry experts who see something special in your blog.
Now, let me just say that in terms of my category – best wedding blog, I am up against giants. I am a fleck of dust on an ant’s backside compared to the big fleshy monsters (meant as a term of endearment!) in my category. RocknRoll Bride is one of the biggest, if not the biggest wedding blog in the world universe. Kat Williams has been blogging for years and has tread where others dared not to and has done so with a pair of Doc Marten’s on, not tiptoeing about in ballet shoes (I get my metaphor here by the way, even if you might not!). She has done so amazingly well that her blog is now going to be available as an actually page-turning magazine from next year. That is something, isn’t it? And then you have Fizzy Bunting who has just won best newcomer at the Wedding Blog Awards 2014, which is fantastic and well deserved and Way Out Weddings was also nominated for Best Alternative Wedding Blog, as well. And Emma from The Promise has a beautiful eye-catching blog and lots of sponsors proudly featuring on her website. And then there’s me. One thing I am particularly proud of, is that mine is the only wedding blog that focuses solely on wedding ceremonies and inspiring couples to focus as much as possible on that part of their wedding day. That in itself I think is a nice quality and different approach within the world of wedding blogs.
So, in case you couldn’t tell, I am over the moon to be in this category. This for me is enough. It’s like sharing a lift with some of the cast of Game of Thrones. They may get off on the top floor for the amazing party, but at least you get to share a ride with them on the way up! If, however, you do want me to go to the party and make me an official winner and not just in my head, you can cast your vote here, but only until December 16th!
And now for some blog loving
For the soon-to-be married ones of you out there, check out this fabulous article and interesting read from the Nu Bride Wedding blog about life after your wedding day. Seriously, you will be surprised how you may feel after your wedding has taken place and suddenly all of the euphoria and wonderment you have been feeling in the build up to your big day and then on the big day itself, passes. Some people feel depressed, rudderless, anxious and even disappointed. We were living in Mexico when we got married and I remember that a little while after our wedding both my husband and I were so sad. We never realised what an impact saying goodbye to all our family and friends would have on us and not knowing when we would see them all again. It really is something special to have all of the people you love under one roof and the emotions you feel when this is over, was in our case, very unexpected! We imagined skipping around arm in arm for at least a year after our wedding day! So skip on over to Nu Bride. It’s a great read to help you prepare for the next phase of married life.
The bird poop incident
Sometimes punctuality is not a good thing. Had I been late, I would not have had time to stand outside my son’s nursery waiting for the doors to open. And had I not been waiting, a bird would not have had the chance to poop on my shoulder. Don’t tell me it’s good luck. I believe this to be an invention that came about because people wanted you to feel better about basically being shat on. The only thing I am lucky about, is that it did not go in my hair. If that had happened, well, let’s not even go there. Or maybe it really was a good luck omen, because the next day I found out about the award nomination! Either way, it was really bloody gross. Like someone had dropped a dollop of mustard and mayonnaise on me!
My fifteen minutes of fame
Although, I used to spend most of my days reading news bulletins on the radio and being broadcasted to millions, I never considered that as fame. But having a wedding that I’ve conducted being filmed by a TV crew for national TV, now that is certainly on the path to fame and notoriety! To be honest, having worked in media before I wasn’t really fazed by being filmed, I was, as always, more concerned about what my hair would decide to do! It was a lovely ceremony nonetheless with the couple taking part in a cute candle ceremony to represent unity between them and their two families and they also said some lovely personal vows too. If I get to see a preview of the documentary (to check my hair!), I may share with you when it’s on….
Talking of fame, proper fame I mean, tennis star Andy Murray has just announced his engagement to long term girlfriend Kim Sears. K.I.M, (yes, I am shouting) I beg you not to opt for the same old boring bog standard wedding that everyone else has and to not have a church wedding when you know you’ve not set foot in a church since you were five year’s old! Please. Just saying. Congrats to them anyway!
Learning from our little people
And lastly, away from weddings but still full of so much love and inspiration is this absolutely amazing video of the cutest little cutie pie ever. This little girl, cannot be more than two years old and she demonstrates so wonderfully how children’s minds are so capable, so focused and so ready to learn anything they want or need to. I love this. Something has to be wrong with your heart, if this does not make you smile.
Well, that’s it me from for this week. Keep your love strong and let your nearest and dearest know how much you love them, like, ALL THE TIME! xxx
